What is an inch of water column (inH2O)?

An inch of water column is a unit of pressure used mainly in the United States, based on the imperial measurement system. It is defined as the pressure exerted by a column of water one inch (1") high at a temperature of 4°C and normal gravitational acceleration. The unit designation for an inch of water column is inH2O.

The inch of water column is traditionally used where low pressure measurements are required.

Inch of water column, similar to mmH2O, is primarily used for low-pressure measurements. In the industrial hose sector, this unit has limited application. The working pressure of higher-capacity hoses is usually given in bars, PSI, or MPa.

When is an inch of water column used to measure pressure?

How to measure pressure in inches of water column?

To measure pressure in inches of water column (inH2O), you need the right measuring equipment, such as a manometer that can read in this unit or units that can be converted to inches of water.
