Hose clamps - Hose clips
How are hose clamps built?
Hose clamps are built in a very simple way - it consists of two basic elements:
- a band (or generally: a ring),
- a clamping mechanism (which varies depending on the type of product).
The whole technique is that you put the clamp on the hose with the appropriate end and then clamp the ring. Depending on the type of product, you will do this either with pliers or by tightening the clamping mechanism.
There are also clamp varieties that tighten themselves.
As you can see, hose (and pipe) clamps are not complicated. However, you may have a bit more trouble selecting the one that works best for you.
How do you choose the right hose clamps?
When you are selecting the right hose clamps, pay attention to the following points in particular:
- outer diameter of the hose;
- clamp diameter range of the hose clamp;
- wall thickness and material type of the hose (rubber or plastic — hard or soft);
- type of hose reinforcement (none, braided or spiral);
- external surface of the hose (smooth or corrugated);
- type of fitting end (smooth, fine grooved/notched, or large/sharp notched);
- width of band clamp;
- operating conditions (working pressure of the hose, temperature, environmental conditions).
All of the above points have a greater or lesser impact on which hose clamp will be best in a particular case.
What kind of hose clamps are available in our store?
You will find many different types of hose clamps in our store. In most cases, these are metal hose clamps, but there are also sometimes plastic hose clamps.
Below you will find all available types of products in this category:
- Worm drive hose clamps and clips — As the name suggests, these types of rings have a worm lock. They are most often created from stainless steel or galvanised steel.
- Heavy-duty hose clamps and clips — A special type of clamp that is characterised by increased strength. They have a lock consisting of a bolt and two sleeves. This type of metal clamp is also known as a pressure clamp.
- Butterfly hose clamps — As the name suggests, they have a lock with a butterfly knob for easy installation and removal.
- Bridge clamps and clips — These are metal clamps that have an additional bridge to adjust the grip strength. This creates a strong and stable installation.
- Mounting clamps and clips — As the name suggests, they are used for the installation of various installations (e.g. chimney, ventilation or air conditioning). These types of metal clamps usually have an additional seal.
- Tightening clamps and clips — Various types of clamps in which you adjust the clamping force by means of a mechanism involving tightening.
- Cable ties and bands — Products that have a bolt-tightening lock.
- Constant tension (spring-loaded) hose clamps — This type of metal clamp does not require tools for installation, as it works by a spring mechanism. It clamps itself but is only used for low-pressure applications.
- Safety clamps — These consist of two parts that you bolt together. The name comes from the fact that they form a 'shell' on the end of the hose. This type of metal clamp is made from steel, brass, or aluminium.
Almost all the products we have listed above are reusable hose clamps. What does this mean? If you wish, you can take them off one hose and transfer them to another without much compromise in quality or durability.
FAQ
What are hose clamps used for?
Hose clamps are primarily used for connecting hoses to the corresponding hose ends (stub ends). However, you can also use it for many other tasks, e.g. for pipe installations (pipe clamps) or for fastening loose cables, hoses, etc.
How do you remove metal hose clamps?
You will usually pull off metal hose clamps when you loosen the lock on the band (or any other clamping mechanism that the clamp has). However, this is not possible in every case. There are also single-use hose clamps that need to be cut/tear.
Where can you buy hose clamps?
You can hose clamps in our shop. We offer a wide selection of their types, so you can choose the perfect product for your needs. Especially since almost every one of the pieces available from us is a reusable clamp.
