How are air hoses constructed?
Air hoses are constructed from three layers. These include:
- inner layer - of synthetic rubber, which is resistant to abrasion, corrosion, weather conditions, ozone, and ageing, and in some cases also to oil and sunlight;
- middle layer/reinforcement - usually textile or steel braid, which gives the air hose a robust structure and resistance to high pressure;
- outer layer - also made of synthetic rubber, which, in addition to the resistance mentioned above, is particularly resistant to mechanical damage.
More rarely, you will also encounter a product such as a reinforced air hose. It differs from traditional hoses in that it has an additional spiral reinforcement that enables it to work under vacuum.
That's not all.
Although rubber air hoses are the most popular, you will also find hoses made from thermoplastic materials. A good example of this is the polyurethane air hose. It has slightly different properties and is also lightweight and very robust.
What is the difference between an air hose and a pneumatic hose?
The main difference between an air hose and a pneumatic hose is their application. Pneumatic hoses are used in compressors. Pressure hoses are most often used for high-pressure applications.
Because the term “pneumatic hose” refers to hoses used for compressed air, most commonly on compressors and similar equipment. It is usually a blue spiral air hose with a very specific purpose.
The term “air hose”, on the other hand, is broader, as it refers to general-purpose hoses for high-pressure operation in industrial plants. These types of hoses are usually also suitable for transporting other media.

What to pay attention to when choosing air hoses?
When you are choosing air hoses, pay particular attention to the following issues:
- Working pressure - a parameter that determines the permissible pressure of the continuous operation of an air hose;
- Bursting pressure - refers to the maximum pressure at which the hose will burst;
- Operating temperature range - if you care about working in extreme temperatures, choose a pressure hose material that allows this;
- Dimensions - the air hose should always match the size of the installation in which it will be used;
- Bending radius - this is indicative of the flexibility of the hose, as it defines the maximum bend that, if exceeded, poses a risk of the hose wall collapsing.

Air hoses can withstand high temperatures, but their resistance in this respect depends on the material from which they are made. Therefore, before you decide on a particular product, check the manufacturer's recommendations
What should I choose: a 3/4 inch air hose or a 1-inch air hose?
When you choose a hose diameter, be guided primarily by the working pressure found in the system and its size. Remember that the wider the hose, the greater the pressure drop.
