Dairy fittings - Dairy couplings
What are the different types of dairy fittings?
Below, we listed particular types of diary fittings:
- DIN 11851 Dairy fitting
- SMS Dairy fitting
- Tri clamp dairy fitting
DIN 11851 Dairy fitting
DIN 11851 couplings take their name from the standard according to which they are manufactured. They are very popular not only in the dairy industry but also in other branches of the food grade industry.
In addition, they are used in the chemical sector. The latter is usually made of EPDM, NBR, silicone, or Viton rubber.
In terms of dimensions, DIN 11851 couplings are available in diameters from DN10 to DN150. The maximum operating pressure depends on the size and is:
- 40 bar (for diameters DN10-DN40);
- 25 bar (for diameters DN50-DN100);
- 16 bar (for diameters DN125-DN150).
Dairy fitting SMS
The dairy coupling SMS is produced according to the Swedish standard and is used primarily in the dairy and food industry. However, it also works well in the cosmetic and chemical industries.
It consists of four components: a nut, a seal, a male part, and a female part. As it has a flat sealing surface, its assembly and disassembly is very simple.
The SMS coupling is available in sizes from DN25 to DN100. However, the maximum working pressure is 15 bar.
Tri clamp dairy fitting
The Tri clamp dairy coupling is a symmetrical-flanged coupling. As it guarantees unimpeded flow and high hygiene, it is widely used not only in the food industry, but also in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cosmetics, chemical, and many other sectors.
The Tri clamp coupling looks original because it consists of two flanges and a seal between them. All this is held together by a special clamp.
Because of this design, two parameters are important when selecting a product: the outer diameter of the flange and the inner diameter of the outlet. As for the working pressure, it depends on the size and the clamp used. However, as a general rule of thumb, we assume that:
- for couplings under 2 inches, the working pressure is 16 bar;
- for couplings over 2 inches, the working pressure is 10 bar.
How is the dairy fitting assembled?
The assembly of the dairy coupling depends on its version. You can buy each of the products described above in several versions. Among the most popular are:
- couplings with a hosetail,
- weld-on couplings.
The first you insert into the hose ends and install using collets or hose clamps. This is a relatively simple operation that you can handle without any problems. Just be careful that a so-called "pocket" does not form between the hose wall and the coupling.
As far as weld-on couplings are concerned, with the right welding technique you will achieve a weld quality that meets the necessary hygienic standards. It must not contain any cracks or places where the medium could settle.
In other words, the joint should be made in such a way that it does not have to be disassembled for cleaning and sterilisation.
For dairy couplings, also choose the best milk hoses from our range. In this way, you will ensure hygienic transport of food substances.
FAQ
What are dairy fittings?
Dairy fittings are couplings that meet the standards for working with food. Therefore, they are characterised by a high level of hygiene and do not affect the quality of the transmitted medium. Despite their name, they are used not only in the food industry, but also in the pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic and other industries.
How much do dairy fittings cost?
There is no single answer to this question, as the price of dairy couplings depends on their type and size. Therefore, depending on the customer's needs, the cost of the product can vary significantly.
Which is bigger: a DN50 dairy coupling or a 2-inch dairy coupling?
The DN50 dairy coupling is the same size as the 2-inch coupling.
