High temperature hoses - High temperature tubing
What are the types of high temperature hoses?
There are 2 main types of high temperature hoses:
- High temperature hose for hot water and steam,
- High temperature hose for hot gases and vapours.
High temperature hose for hot water and steam
Water and steam hoses are characterised by a standard construction, i.e. they consist of three layers:
- outer,
- middle, i.e. reinforcement,
- inner.
The inner and outer layers are made of different rubber compounds (usually EPDM), which are characterised by high temperature resistance. The reinforcement, on the other hand, takes the form of a synthetic braid/cord or steel wire and provides resistance to working pressure.
The reinforcement can be doubled or even tripled, further increasing the pressure insensitivity of the hose.
High temperature hose for hot gases and vapours
When hot gases and vapours are involved, high temperature hoses are primarily used for their extraction and ventilation. Therefore, resistance to negative pressure is important with this type of hose.
Hoses for hot gases and vapours are made of fabric (usually fibreglass) that is impregnated with neoprene or silicone. The use of these materials makes the hoses resistant to really high temperatures (even up to 1000 degrees Celsius).
In addition, they have reinforcement in the form of steel wire spirals (sometimes wire and steel sheet). It is this that enables the hoses to operate under vacuum.
What high temperature hoses are available in our range?
You will find the following high temperature hoses in our shop:
- hot water hoses - these are usually rubber hoses that are used to transport both hot water and (in some cases) cooling water and coolant;
- steam hoses - these are very similar to hot water hoses and are therefore sometimes used interchangeably (however, the operating temperature range for water and steam will be different!);
- exhaust hoses - these are extraction hoses that enable the safe transport of exhaust fumes outside the workplace (some are even resistant to very high temperatures).
When you choose a high temperature hose, pay attention to the following points:
- medium type - choose the variety of hose primarily according to the medium with which it will be working (in the case of steam, also bear in mind the distinction between moist, saturated, and superheated steam);
- permissible working pressure - exceeding it for a long period of time will result in damage or even rupture of the hose (this value is also influenced by the working temperature of the hose);
- operating temperature range - as in the case of pressure, operation at a temperature not tolerated by the hose material will lead to a loss of properties, resulting in hose damage;
- nominal inner diameter - plays an important role in selecting a hose size that will fit the installation;
- environmental conditions - the hose should be able to withstand the environment in which it will have to work (e.g. changing weather conditions, contact with different substances or the risk of mechanical damage).
In the case of the operating temperature range, also take into account the fact that this parameter varies depending on the medium to be transported. Some hoses are suitable for the transmission of steam at temperatures as high as 200 degrees Celsius and above, but for water, they can withstand a maximum of 90-100 degrees Celsius.
FAQ
Which hose material is best suited to high temperatures?
The best material for high temperature hoses is silicone, which by itself can withstand up to 250 degrees Celsius. A second and slightly cheaper option is EPDM rubber, as it can withstand temperatures up to 177 degrees Celsius (but this also depends on the type of medium).
What temperature can a rubber hose withstand?
A high temperature rubber hose will withstand temperatures of up to 230 degrees Celsius. Take into account that this parameter is determined for a specific type of medium (e.g. saturated steam). When transporting other substances, the permissible temperature may be lower.
How much does a high temperature hose cost?
The cost of a high temperature hose depends on its type, manufacturing material, as well as size and length. Therefore, there is no single, averaged price for this type of product. The final purchase cost is primarily determined by the needs of the individual customer.
