Bauer fittings - Bauer couplings
How is BAUER coupling constructed?
BAUER coupling is constructed of several components:
- locking ring with a lever,
- o-ring seal,
- plug, i.e. the male part
- socket, i.e. the female part.
BAUER couplings are distinguished by the fact that you insert the locking ring from the ball side of the plug, i.e. the male part.
When it comes to the material of construction, they are normally made from galvanised steel. They are most often coupled with an NR rubber or SBR rubber seal. All of this makes them highly durable and long-lasting, and they are resistant to contamination.
What are the different types of BAUER couplings depending on the type of mounting?
BAUER couplings are also available in a number of mounting versions. In the market offer you will find male and female parts with:
- hose end,
- male thread,
- flange,
- weld-on end.
There are also variations of BAUER couplings, such as elbows and tees.
What are the key parameters of BAUER coupling?
Before you decide to buy a BAUER coupling, know its key parameters. When it comes to nominal sizes, you will always have the following diameters (in mm) available: 50, 76, 89, 108, 133, 159, 194. These are independent of the manufacturer, as BAUER coupling has its own standard.
What comes next is the permissible working pressure. In this respect, the couplings perform very well, as they can withstand pressures of up to 12 bar. There are exceptions for the two smallest sizes (50 and 76), which are even more resistant (up to 20 bar).
What is more, the couplings can also operate under negative pressure.
Finally, it is also worth mentioning the permissible operating temperature. This depends primarily on the seal material. In the standard case (SBR rubber), the manufacturer specifies a maximum temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.
How to connect BAUER coupling?
You will connect BAUER coupling together in a very simple way. In fact, you'll even do it with just one hand.
Just follow the steps below:
- Insert the plug (male part) into the socket (female part). Make sure the seal is in place first.
- Clip the locking ring wings against the socket.
- Tighten the lever.
That's it. From now on, the connection is tight.
However, remember that BAUER coupling must be fitted at the beginning. You will do this either with a clamping ring (hose end) or by screwing (thread or flange) or welding (weld end).
Why use BAUER couplings?
BAUER couplings are worth using for several reasons. These are:
- Elasticity — Because of their ball-shaped design, they allow installation at an angle of up to 30 degrees in all directions. This does not affect their properties. They still remain completely airtight and pressure resistant (so they are great for difficult terrain).
- Robustness and durability — They are made of robust quality steel and owe their durability to abrasion-resistant hot-dip galvanisation in accordance with DIN EN ISO 1461.
- Safety — Absolutely leak-proof in both suction and discharge, up to 20 bar working pressure for all pumped media.
- Tensile strength — Tightness is maintained even under tensile loads.
- Versatility — Suitable for all pumped media thanks to galvanised or stainless steel materials.
- Safety — Equipped with a special locking ring.
- Practicality — You can quickly open and close them without special tools, even in the dark (they have no loose parts).
Where are BAUER couplings used?
BAUER couplings are used in a wide range of industries, such as:
- mining, road, and tunnel construction;
- temporary and emergency installations with drinking water, industrial water or wastewater;
- agriculture;
- waste water transport and handling;
- exhaust gas and dust installations;
- oil extraction installations;
- food and chemical industries.
FAQ
What is a BAUER coupling?
It is a ball-and-socket coupling characterised by simplicity of use and high strength. In addition, it allows connection at angles of up to 30 degrees. All this makes it suitable for a multitude of applications in many industries.
Does a BAUER coupling meet the requirements for food transport?
A BAUER coupling meets the requirements for food transport if it has been created with the right materials — in this case stainless steel and the right seal. The standard galvanised steel version is not suitable for this task.
Do I need special tools to connect a BAUER coupling?
You do not need special tools to connect BAUER coupling. Thanks to the simple mechanism of operation, you can even close and open them with one hand.
