Quick release couplings - Quick Connect fittings
How is a quick release hose coupling constructed?
A quick release hose coupling is made up of two basic components. These are:
- a socket,
- a plug.
The plug is distinguished by its special shape, thanks to which it locks into the socket by means of a ball mechanism. Its tightness is ensured by an appropriate seal (usually made from a rubber compound).
The socket, on the other hand, has a special sleeve supported by a spring, which blocks the pressure of the balls against the plug. When you move it, you unlock the mechanism, allowing the joint to be disconnected.
There are many plug profiles. Some are covered by standards and others have become standard for one or more manufacturers. Therefore, quick release couplings may be interchangeable, but it is worth checking this before installation.
For safety, we advise using plugs and sockets from the same manufacturers.
What are the material versions of quick release hose couplings?
The quick release hose coupling is available in several material versions. The most popular of these include:
- brass — the basic material for quick release couplings, it is strong and cheap, but more susceptible to wear caused by frequent coupling and vibration of the installation;
- galvanised steel — more durable and slightly more expensive than brass, but with a longer service life;
- stainless steel — a noble material that is not only strong but also more resistant to chemicals, and is also suitable for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to its hygienic properties.
In which versions are there quick release hose couplings?
Quick release hose couplings come in several versions, which differ in design. We distinguish between the varieties:
- with free flow — the coupling has no valves in either the socket or the plug;
- single shut-off — quick release coupling has one valve (usually in the socket) which opens when the plug is fitted;
- double shut-off — the coupling has two valves (both in the socket and in the plug), both of which open by connecting the coupling parts;
- leak-free — a special hose connection that is similar to a double shut-off, but distinguished by the flat contact surface of the valves, which eliminates the leakage of the medium when connecting and disconnecting.
As you can see, you have a choice of different hose couplings. This makes it much easier for you to find a product that meets your expectations.
What quick release couplings for hoses are available in our offer?
We have prepared several categories of quick couplings for applications in our range. These are:
- quick release couplings for water — used for transporting cold and hot water as well as detergents and chemicals, suitable for connecting hoses, water guns, and other similar equipment;
- quick release couplings for air — are used for various gas installations and especially for compressed air (e.g. compressors and pneumatic tools);
- quick release couplings for injection moulds — connect the mould cooling and heating channels to the hoses that supply water and heating medium.
What to look for when choosing a quick release hose coupling?
When you are choosing a quick release hose coupling, take into account several important factors such as:
- permissible operating pressure — a very important parameter, exceeding which may result in damage or even rupture of the coupling;
- nominal diameter — defines the width of the internal channel available to the hose coupling;
- flow rate — indicates the capacity, which is given by manufacturers in l/min at a given pressure (flow rate comparisons should always be made at the same pressure);
- seal material — what matters most is its operating temperature range and chemical resistance;
- body material — directly influences the mechanical strength and chemical resistance of the hose coupling.
FAQ
Which quick release hose coupling should you choose?
The choice of quick release hose coupling depends primarily on two things: the permissible operating pressure and the material of manufacture. In addition, the size of the product, its capacity and the type of construction (shut-off or not) also matter.
Why use quick release hose couplings?
Quick release couplings are there to make connecting hoses to the installation easier and quicker. They are convenient to use and robust, so they are used in many industries.
Are pneumatic couplings suitable for water?
Yes, pneumatic couplings are suitable for water.
