How are PERROT couplings constructed?
PERROT couplings are made up of several components. These are:
- safety ring with lever,
- seal,
- the socket, i.e. the female part (this is what has the lever and the seal),
- the plug, i.e. the male part (much simpler to construct).
Apart from the seal, all components of the coupling are formed either from galvanised steel (the most popular option) or stainless steel. The second version increases the application possibilities, as it allows for working with media such as spirits, edible oils, beverages, chemicals or refinery products.
However, a suitable seal must be selected in each case.
As standard, i.e. when the PERROT coupling is made of galvanised steel, there is an SBR rubber seal.
What are the different types of PERROT couplings depending on the type of installation?
In addition, there are four types of male and female parts, depending on how they are fitted:
- with hose end,
- with a flange for screwing onto the installation,
- with BSP thread,
- with a stub for welding.
What are the key parameters of PERROT couplings?
As PERROT couplings are manufactured according to a single scheme, they all offer the same size range. They are determined by the approximate outer diameter of the tubes. You can choose from the couplings (in mm): 50, 70, 89, 108, 133, 159, 216.
Another important issue is the permissible working pressure. This is 10 bar for almost all products of this type. The only exception is the largest PERROT couplings (216 mm), where the permissible working pressure is 8 bar.
Finally, the working temperature range is also worth mentioning. This is determined by the seal (the steel coupling itself is more robust from this angle). For a standard product with an SBR rubber seal, the permissible temperature range is -30 to 80 degrees Celsius.
How to join PERROT couplings together?
You will be able to join the PERROT coupling in a very simple way, which is due to its uncomplicated design. The whole process comes down to three steps:
- Insert the male part into the female part (make sure the seal is in place first).
- Hook the clasp handles onto the male part.
- Press the lever.
That's it! As of now, the PERROT coupling is airtight.
However, take into account that at the very beginning you have to screw it on, weld it or connect it to the hose with a suitable clamp (depending on the type of end of the male/female part).
Why use the PERROT coupling?
PERROT couplings are worth using for several reasons. The first is the ease of use, going so far that you can easily connect the plug to the socket even with one hand. The joint will be sealed until you loosen the lever.
Furthermore, it is resistant to contamination. There is no fear that with the transmission of certain materials (e.g. sewage), dirt will lead to a loss of tightness.
Another advantage is due to the spherical structure that the PERROT coupling is characterised by. It allows the male and female parts to be joined at an angle (up to 15 degrees), increasing the range of applications and comfort of use.
It is worth noting, however, that angled joining does not apply to the largest product size (216 mm), as it is not possible in this case.
A final advantage that arises from all of the above is the multifunctionality of PERROT couplings. They are used in areas such as:
- agriculture, construction of irrigation and sprinkler systems;
- suction and transport of faecal matter on vacuum tankers;
- construction and road works for temporary drainage systems;
- food industry (stainless steel couplings);
- chemical, pulp and paper and building materials industries;
- mining (water and bulk materials).
FAQ
What is a PERROT coupling?
The PERROT coupling is a lever lock coupling with a spherical shape that allows for angled coupling. It is used for the transfer of water and other liquids, as well as bulk materials. It is distinguished by its high strength and resistance to contamination.
How to choose the size of the PERROT coupling?
The size of the PERROT coupling is most easily selected on the basis of the diameter of the tube to which it is adapted. This parameter is provided by the manufacturer in millimetres. You will find the following sizes in the offer: 50, 70 89, 108, 133, 159, 216.
Is the PERROT coupling suitable for transporting food?
Yes, the PERROT coupling is suitable for food transport — but only if it is made of stainless steel. In this case, it will also serve for the transport of other substances for which strict standards apply. Just remember to choose the right seal for the particular medium.
